Philosophy

Taylor teaches using the two schools of riding: The German Riding System and French Classical Horsemanship.

The German Training System is a systematic way of teaching foundation to horses and riders. Such tools in the system including the German Training Scale, are a valuable blue print for progress and problem solving. Did you know there is a German Training Scale for Riders too?

Once Riders have developed a strong foundation in riding, Taylor, then introduces principles of lightness from French Classical Horsemanship. Classical riding is based on feel and self carriage and lends itself to connection and harmony between horse and rider.

Training

Methodology

At A.T.E, our horses are educated, quite literally, from the ground up. Our horses are started on the ground, where they become familiarized with cues and equipment. By the time they are ready for a rider, they are confident with the aids, leading to successful first rides. Even when proven competition horses come into training for a tune up, it all starts with the ground work. From here, we can evaluate the horse’s biomechanics and his sensitivity to cues before making that jump into the saddle.

Once under saddle, our horses receive a well rounded education. We don’t specialize young horses early as we feel horses benefit physically and mentally from changes of discipline and scenery. We believe our horses should be as successful trekking the mountain range as they are in the competition arena!

A Complete Approach

Time in the arena is only a fraction of what makes a successful athlete. Nutrition, chiropractic, farrier care and general management are some of the few factors involved in a successful training program. We strongly believe that our involvement in horse’s lives should improve rather than hinder them, mentally and physically!

The Three Month Rule

Have you ever gone to the gym and seen life changing results in 30 days? Neither have we. How about 90 days? Ahhh, now we have some progress! Horses are accepted into training for a minimum 3 months, sort of like university semesters. Our sales horses are also required to be in a minimum 3 months training before reaching the market, so you can be sure of solid foundation in any horse from Anne Taylor Equestrian.
